“What sells on eBay?” The answer most often given is, everything sells on ebay. And to an extent that is true. JUST ABOUT everything does sell on ebay. You’ll find empty soup cans and human souls being sold on ebay! Often times however, the answer is incomplete. More often then not, the answer has been copied from other sources. It doesn’t come from first-hand experience. It seldom is adjusted for seasonal changes. And new product trends can go by unnoticed. My free software will change that for you. Questions You Should Ask:
People ask me what are the best sellers on eBay and when I mention a few items the most common reaction is, “I might have known.” The truth is, the best sellers on ebay are the same best sellers we find in local stores .. DVDs, electronics, jewelry, dolls, toys, antiques, collector items, etc. You can pretty much see this simply by looking at the categories on ebay. But the real questions you need answered are:
(1) What niches are hot right now?
(2) What specific items within those niches are selling.. today?
And “today” is the keyword here.
Trend Watching to Uncover What’s Selling on Ebay:
You need to be a trend watcher as much as an investigator to uncover the truth behind the question of what is selling on ebay at any given time. There’s a lot of old, misleading information that just seems to hang in limbo on the Internet. And while historical records can be helpful it’s much more useful to see for yourself what’s hot in real time. By planning to study the ebay marketplace regularly you can piece together several niches that work for you no matter the season. When one niche becomes cold and falls out of favor for awhile you can adjust to a hot niche to keep your profits rolling in.
Avoid Out-of-Date Information:
Few web sites or eBooks can give you an up-to-the-minute accounting of what is selling on ebay. Much of the information you find online is actually years old. In other words, it’s useless to you now. But somehow this old data just hangs on taking up space like yesterday’s newspaper. Only the Search Engines haven’t caught on and keep feeding it to the top of the search.
No Need for Expensive Software:
Of course, if you have the money, you can buy research software from Hammertap or Terapeak. These programs give you lots of information, at a price. But, isn’t the idea of selling on ebay to make money? These programs are fine for the established ebay seller with lots of auctions. But when you’re just starting out, or you only sell occasionally, you don’t want to be burden with the expense of these programs.
Putting the Puzzle Together:
The best way to see what is selling on ebay right now is to look at lots of auctions in progress. Note the items, the price and most important, the number of bids. You need to know if people are interested in the product and this is clearly revealed by the number of bids. While price is important it is less important at this stage then the number of bids. All too often people approach this backwards. First determine if there is a demand, then determine if there’s a profit. Why waste valuable time pursuing items that have little or no public demand?
Determining a profit goes hand-in-hand with determining a source. All are important pieces of the puzzle but it begins with demand.
Looking at lots of Auctions:
If you go to ebay to look at auction listings you could spend hours looking through them and waste a great deal of time trying to determine a niche you’d like to explore. Even eBay’s own tools can waste a lot of your time. Ebay Pulse is a great place to start but without a system to scan for the most desirable items you’ll end up wasting time.
